Aberdour, Fife - NT 193853 - NMRS - Ross 484

Lat: 56:03:13N Lon: 3:17:50W

A cube dial with a sloping top (resulting in 8 dials) and a ball finial with a rod gnomon passing through it. The ball is marked with arabic figures N-S and Roman numerals on the central band. On the North face is an equation table and Lat 54º45'.

The entire dial is 8 feet 5 inches high with the faces of the cube dial being 16 inches square.

The dial is originally from Castle Wigg, Kircudbrightshire, and was restored and erected in 1972 (Historic Buildings & Monuments Department).

Also at Aberdour Castle are an attached dial and an interesting horizontal dial.

The castle is now in the care of Historic Scotland which means that the dials are easy to visit.
