Huntly House

Museum of Edinburgh, High St, Edinburgh - NT264738

A polyhedron with hollowed stone dials and brass plate dials.

Somerville suggests it comes from Saughton House or Grange House.

I would suggest that it is 19th century.

A very easy dial to see but almost impossible to touch. It being just through an arch on the Royal Mile means that I have seen it dozens of times but to this day I have not actually stood next to it. This is thanks to health and safety legislation which means that the slightly run down museum courtyard can not be visited until it is renovated. However, a zoom lens can over come the iron yett.

More importantly is that Plaisir du Chocolate is just up the road. It has the most amazing chocolate overload that you are likely ever to experience. I can recommend everything - particularly the truffles which are the size of oranges and I have never worked out how to eat.
