Dundas Castle

South Queensferry, MidLothian - NT 119767 - Gatty 154 - Ross 429 - RCAMS

The earliest lectern dial in Scotland.

A star-desk lectern that is mounted on an elaborate fountain and with an inscription which includes the date 1623.

Lectern dial design slowly evolved evolved over the years but at least the next oldest lectern dial, that at Inveresk Lodge (formerly Pitreavie), bears a similarity.
