Dalgety,
Fife - NT 147853 - NMRS - Ross 429 A copy of the dial that was at Pitreavie just a few miles away from Fordell but which is now at Inveresk Lodge. The dial at Fordell was erected in 1857 when the house was remodelled. When Somerville visited the dial block was 180º out of correct alignment. It is hard to tell from such a distance but the photographs seem to show that it has not been corrected yet. Visited 15 September 1985 - A. R. Somerville Visited 11 May 2006 - Author

It took me a very long time to find this castle and when I did there was the dial just 30m or so through the ornamental gates. However, they were very large ornamental gates connected to a very secure wall. Sat by the gates slowly relacing his boots was a gardener and, fresh from my happy experience at Wemyss Castle, I asked to slip through the gates, take a quick photo and then be on my way. This amused him for to let me do this was more than his job was worth. Nor would he contact either the head gardener or the owner to ask their permission. For once I had to be satisfied with a glimpse through a gate and the knowledge that it is only a Victorian copy of one that I have already seen. Even so I would still like to see it.
