Kirkton Hall

West Kilbride , Ayrshire - NS 207484

The dial was erected by Professor Simson in memory of his parents. Their initials, IS and AS, along with the date 1717 appear on it together with an armorial shield bearing three crescents symbolising the stages of life. Simson was professor of mathematics at Glasgow University from 1711 to 1761.

Kirkton Hall had become the local council office by Somerville's visit.

The dial has a pointed boss with corner cup-hollows and traces of gnomons remaining on upper and lower surfaces. It has a shaft of four layers of panels and a finial also with four layers of panels.

I stumbled across this dial on a beautiful and exhausting day on a very important weekend with a beautiful girl. I was rather preoccupied but still took a photograph and when I remember where I put it will fish it out and put it up for you all to see.
